Excited for the event at The Street Is In The House exhibit downtown tomorrow night. We first spotted pieces from the nifty exhibit comprised of NYC street objects converted to functional pieces for the home at the ICFF show recently (i.e. a newspaper kiosk becomes a dishwasher and a bright orange construction safety cone become your latest and greatest guest chair).  Frankly, we’ve been looking for some police barricades for our apartment. We’re really trying to get some points across to the roommate.

These would look cool in the downstairs event space/late night club at the ACE Hotel NYC. There’s a vintage stereo/DJ get-up going on down there.

That pair of vintage green Accoustic Research Inc. speakers are to die for.

(via The Architect’s Newspaper) A rooftop farm on top of a Lower East Side school?  Students growing their own lunch? Hmm, I guess that’s a nice idea but all I can think is…massive amounts of pigeon poo. How will they be deterred?

CASSETTE IS NOT DEAD! (at 2010 ICFF) and other fun finds……

There were a lot of exciting things going on at ICFF in NYC this past weekend and it wasn’t just the bicyclist who went flying off of his bike trying to avoid hitting us as we were crossing 11th Ave (it’s true).  Some quick shots of hip faves here (more to come):

1) Kiu Interiors’ playful Jouet table inspired by a pull wagon brings back childhood memories. Super functional as a mobile piece and undoubtedly the star of the show as it easily becomes the center of attention.

2) and 3) The Street is in the House exhibition by Carlo Sampietro uses found objects off of the nitty gritty streets of NYC and transforms them into functional pieces for the home.  Who knew a safety cone could make such a dynamic seat?  Oh, and a sidewalk magazine kiosk can house your dishes quite well.

4) and 5) Isotope’s Geo side table makes us feel like we’re looking down at a whole world right from underneath our drink coasters.  Influenced by geography, Geo brings the exterior to our interior in a cool new way.

6) Alle Design brought to us by way of Brazil makes a clear point. Children’s furniture doesn’t have to impinge on interior style.  A fabulous collection with several stand out pieces, we just couldn’t get over this  hip “rocking horse”.  The kid that’s rocking on the Gioco is no doubt the coolest kid on the block.

7) Bright, bold, in your face. Corita Rose’s Amor Sofa has us..well…has us quite enamored to say the least.

8) The Urban Case Emergency Cocktail Station quiets our nerves.  Nothing to worry about with all of our emergency martini tools within arm’s reach. Ahhh…

9) We can’t turn away a well designed skull.  Bohemia Machine Glass gives us the latest edition to ironically “liven up” our collection of chatchkys.

10) Retro die hards rejoice. Cassette is not dead! as Vanesa Moreno proves through pieces constructed of a defunct generation of cassette tapes.  The box lamp reminds us of simpler times when mix tapes were a gift of romance…sigh. At least now they are putting light in our lives!
